Spiritual Amnesia

“For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more.”

Hebrews 8:12

One of the attributes of God that I’ve been thinking a lot about lately, is His supernatural ability to forget.

I would sure like that, I tend to tell God,  as I ponder how nice it would be to not think about the past hurts and failures in life.

So, I pray, Lord make me more like you.

Then, the Holy Spirit revealed to me, this supernatural ability, is nothing short of a decision.

Spiritual amnesia is a choice.

God chooses not to remember our past.

And He has made us like Himself. When He gave the authority to Adam and Eve in the Garden, He told them to subdue, or take dominion over every creeping thing.

That includes our thoughts.

“Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;”

2 Corinthians 10:5

We spend a lot of time praying for what we already have.

What we really want is the absence of pain and process, but we can’t conform to the image of Christ apart from it.

God has always desired a choice from us. It started in the garden and remains the standard for every day life.

Choice is, the Supernatural power of God, given to the children of men. God doesn’t make us do anything, but instead, gives us the power to choose.

“I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live:”

Deuteronomy 30:19

We indeed, already have the power, like God,  to choose the direction and course of each day, by lining up every thought with the intent of  His heart. His heart is love, and His heart is to be intentional with forgiveness. God doesn’t go with what He feels, but rather with what He’s chosen.

I’m sure Jesus didn’t feel like taking on the cross, but He chose to line up with the Father’s heart. That choice is what brought about our victory.

And it’s still bringing us victory today, if we will choose, on purpose, to let go of, and cast down anything from the past that has a negative effect on our lives.

I’ve struggled in this area. That’s why I can write about it. My desire has been to forget the past and move forward, but if it was easy, wouldn’t everyone be doing it?

It’s simple, for sure, but not always easy.

The enemy isn’t called the accuser of the brethren for no reason.  His agenda is to sow discord, and to separate us from God and others. To bring guilt to us, individually, and to rehearse others mistakes to us.

The choice, however, of what  to think on, remains ours. He can bring the thoughts, but  it’s up to us whether we sign for them or not.

So, I encourage you today to  stop buying what the devil is selling.

Supernatural amnesia already belongs to us.

It’s in the power of your decision.

You can choose to forget.
