You can’t always get what you want…..

I can’t help but blare The Rolling Stones lyrics in my mind….

“You can’t always get what you want…. but if you try sometimes, you just might find… you get what you need.”

Or in my case, what I couldn’t even think I wanted…..

What I wanted,  was a pedicure for Mother’s Day.

Instead, I got flowers.

I threw a little temper tantrum in my heart.

“That’s not what I wanted.”

I even danced around my disappointment with my husband declaring that I wasn’t, but that I had just really wanted a pedicure.

So, I thought.

Inject God’s Word here;

For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD.
9 For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.

Isaiah 55:8-9

And you have the recipe for blessing instead of disappointment.

Same for my Birthday.

The thought of getting rock for your birthday seems a bit contrary to the list of things I could come up with to spend that kind of money on,

until….

I realized how genius and extravagant my husband really is.

The finished Work has become an oasis of beauty for me to enjoy, not just for a few weeks,

like a pedicure,

but for a whole season and even years.

As I laid in bed almost cackling to myself because of my foolishness, I began beaming because of the Love of My Father, and How it’s extended to me through my husband.

What a revelation.

We are so blinded by what we think we want, that we get disappointed when we don’t get it.

But Have we considered that God has something better if we will just open our hearts?

I’m learning that what I used to think brought  me pleasure was a quick, non lasting fix.

Temporal.

God’s blessings are things of real value that last.

Take the children of Israel for example.

When they complained and murmured because they were only getting manna and not the meat they wanted, they regressed to desiring to return to bondage.

At least there were leeks and onions there!

Are you serious?

Who would trade freedom for some leeks and onions?

I enjoy onions, but they aren’t worth bondage.

Put whatever it is in the onions’ spot that causes you to be disappointed with what God has given to you.

For me, the familiarity of the past calls my Name, but I remember the bondage there.

I’m not going back.

The Truth was, God had brought the Israelites out to bring them into the Blessing, but He had to have their trust in His Wisdom,

not theirs.

He has exceedingly Abundant blessings in store for us.

Why settle for a pedicure when you can enjoy an Oasis?

Ask God to Give you what He desires to give you, and I can assure you, it won’t disappoint!
