I am going to share on the “waiters,” but not today.
I’m too excited about another thing I learned last night about my Best Friend,
Jesus.
Do you ever wonder if He talks about you behind your back?
We’ve all had friends like that.
Truth is, we’ve all been friends like that.
But I was overwhelmed by His Goodness while I was at church last night,
to find out what kind of things Jesus says about us behind our backs.
Our Pastor brought up John the Baptist and his struggle with doubt,
Yes, doubt.
Go back and look at Matthew 11 for yourself.
Really Look, because I’ve seen that before,
the fact that John doubted and questioned Jesus.
But what surrounded me like a cloud of glory last night,
Was what Jesus said about John behind his back when He was struggling.
Matthew 11:7-11;
8 But what went ye out for to see? A man clothed in soft raiment? behold, they that wear soft clothing are in kings’ houses.
9 But what went ye out for to see? A prophet? yea, I say unto you, and more than a prophet.
10 For this is he, of whom it is written, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, which shall prepare thy way before thee.
11 Verily I say unto you, Among them that are born of women there hath not risen a greater than John the Baptist: notwithstanding he that is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.
Jesus declared what was Written about John.
What a Friend we have in Jesus.
I can assure you, by this Truth,
That when we struggle…
Now listen to me… John had seen the Spirit of God descend on Jesus-
He was filled with the Spirit from the womb-
He heard a voice from heaven declaring that Jesus was the Son of God-
But in this moment in Matthew 11, he had questioned all of that.
Oh sweet friend, I’ve been there.
And then I beat the tar out of myself.
How could I doubt?
I’ve seen so many mighty moves of God.
But you know what He reassured me with last night–
Through the Word,
the Written Word-
(that’s unchangeable and not a respecter of persons)
That He was never talking bad about me behind my back.
But instead, He was declaring to the Father everything that He made me to be.
And, let’s go further,
I believe that He even speaks to our enemies and the people who question us, the same things if they will listen.
I know when I have been the friend of someone who’s character I’m questioning,
Even recently,
the Holy Spirit reminded me to quit seeing believers after the flesh.
That’s where we err.
I’ll never forget a testimony at my Grandpa’s funeral from a fellow Preacher that was impacted by His life.
He said, “what ministered to me the most, about Glen, was the time I felt so unqualified to preach,
and like I just didn’t have what it takes,
But Pastor Gowen asked me to preach at his church that following Sunday…
He went on to say,
“He saw something in me that I wasn’t seeing at the time.”
Brothers and Sisters, let us do that same thing for each other, to the Glory of The Father.
Oh Jesus, Show us more of how to become the kind of friend you are.
