“Philip said to Him, “Lord, show us the Father and then we will be satisfied.” Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you for so long a time, and you do not know Me yet, Philip, nor recognize clearly who I am? Anyone who has seen Me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father?’ Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father is in Me? The words I say to you I do not say on My own initiative or authority, but the Father, abiding continually in Me, does His works [His attesting miracles and acts of power]. Believe Me that I am in the Father and the Father is in Me; otherwise believe [Me] because of the [very] works themselves [which you have witnessed]. I assure you and most solemnly say to you, anyone who believes in Me [as Savior] will also do the things that I do; and he will do even greater things than these [in extent and outreach], because I am going to the Father.”
John 14:8-12 AMP
“How can you say that?”
I’ve asked this question of my children,
saddened, because of their lack of faith in my character,
Or at other times their greediness and lack of contentment.
So, it’s as if I can empathize with Jesus in His Words, as He asks that of Phillip.
Can you imagine what they, the disciples had seen on a daily basis?
Blind eyes open.
Deaf ears, now able to hear.
Demons driven out of the hopeless.
And Teachings that confounded the wisest educators of the day.
All done through Jesus, their friend, and Master.
But now, whether dissatisfaction or pure unbelief,
Philip begs of one more indicator of the Authority of Jesus.
“Just show us the Father.”
This is screaming to my heart loud and clear this morning.
I don’t know about you, but I’ve seen and witnessed some mighty things in my life by the hands of Jesus.
As He told Philip, there’s no other Way…
There’s no way I could have experienced any of these things by my own strength or understanding.
Yet, how is it, that now, when something else troubling comes up,
I look to what could happen,
Instead of what HAS ALREADY HAPPENED.
Psalm 91, my family’s insurance policy,
Was purchased for me by the blood of Jesus.
It has covered us from multiple accidents and diseases before,
So how can I say,
“But what about this new virus?”
“Or that new cancer?”
“Or this sudden heartbreak?”
Brothers and Sisters,
Jesus didn’t tell them that day that they would be immune from things attacking,
But instead,
He said that they would overcome them just as He had.
As a matter of fact, scripture declares that no weapon formed against us shall prosper.
That doesn’t mean that they won’t form.
It just means that through Jesus,
the Way,
the Truth and the Life,
They can’t prosper.
I don’t know what your facing today,
But Jesus said,
“Don’t let your heart be troubled about it.”
Believe in the One you’ve seen Victorious.
Recount all that you’ve seen His hand accomplish in your life.
There will be no room left for doubt.
As you magnify all that He is, and All that He’s done,
You’ll be found asking yourself this question.
“How can I say that?”
The Lord has done great things for me.
And what He has done before, He will do again.
