Hugh-Ja”but”

I read a devotional yesterday about rebellion.

It was the account of Saul and how there was a Huge,

But,

between what He was supposed to do- by obedience,

and what he tried to reason-

would be a sacrifice.

“Saul said to Samuel, “I have obeyed the voice of the LORD, and have gone on the mission on which the LORD sent me, and have brought back Agag the king of Amalek, and have completely destroyed the Amalekites. But the people took some of the spoil, sheep and oxen, the best of the things [that were] to be totally destroyed, to sacrifice to the LORD your God at Gilgal.””
‭‭1 Samuel‬ ‭15:20-21‬ ‭AMP‬‬

I have obeyed,

But…..

Then I haven’t obeyed.

I find myself in Saul’s shoes.

Yes God, I know you said,

But.

I feel.

I’m just going to do it my way and give the reason why it looked spiritual.

“But… I’m sacrificing. “

I’m doing all these things for you.”

Yet, the Lord responds with:

Obedience is better than sacrifice.

Reason is deadly to obedience.

It’s a high and lofty thought that exalts itself against the knowledge of God’s Word.

We’re told to-

Love God with all of our heart and to love our neighbor as ourself.

But we reason that being patient with people, the way God is patient with us-

Will take too long.

We reason that the promise can be rushed by our progress.

We reason that healing may not be for today because of what our body screams at us.

As I’ve said before, we have to learn where our buts should go!

My body feels terrible, BUT, God says I’m healed.

I think things should go one way, BUT the Word said to Submit.

I’ve had enough… BUT the Word says Love IS patient.

I know what they’ve done, BUT the Word says to forgive.

Here’s what I’ve been reminded,

when our buts are out of order, it causes just that…

Disorder.

It messes up the plan of God for our lives.

Saul was asked to execute God’s plan because God could see the whole spectrum.

Sauls finite mind could not.

His disobedience didn’t just affect him.

It spread through generations.

What is God asking or saying in our lives today?

Where do we need to choose obedience,

Rather than sacrifice through excuses.

I can testify that What God says is always for our best interest.

Don’t be fooled.

Don’t put your but in the wrong place!
