“Why walk when you can run?” -Bear, Alaskan Bush People
I had that backwards.
While walking at a Race for the Cure some years back, I looked at all the runners like they were crazy.
Why run when you can just walk, I sneered.
But as I finished up my run yesterday, I had to walk something up to the trash can and started running back to the house instead of just walking.
I didn’t have to.
My timed run was over, but now it’s a joy to be able to run instead of walk.
I see things differently now.
I see Grace, differently.
In the beginning of my walk with Jesus, I was content with that.
Blessed by the fact that my sins were covered and I rested in just taking it easy.
My heart had turned, so that desire to conform to His likeness, kept growing.
He did that in me.
Philippians 1:6 was and is at work.
But I had to line up my life with it.
He put the desire in me, in my natural run, but I had to put the shoes on!
My desire to run, then changed my actions.
True, understanding of Grace doesn’t cause you to what to get by with sin,
It causes you to want to run past it!
Titus 2 says that the Grace of God that bringeth salvation has appeared to all men-
(That’s Jesus)
Teaching us that denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live righteously and Godly in this present world.
Present world.
Not just live Godly when we get to Heaven.
I was thinking this morning on what inspired me.
That’s changed over the years.
That should happen with growth.
My looking good for my husband and being in shape inspired me in the beginning.
But now, He, Jesus, is the inspiration.
Spiritually speaking, I run, because I want to be the best I was made to be for Him.
According to Romans 12:2, I want the perfect will of God for my life.
The law, or following rules, causes me to want to be the best for me.
So I can look better and brag to others.
But when Grace kicks in, I want to look better for Him.
So, He gets the Glory.
I’m hearing “you’re the Inspiration” jamming in my mind right now.
He is my inspiration.
And when He is your inspiration, you don’t have to look a thousand different places to find it.
It’s already there.
Because if we’re in the Word, we see we are always needing the change from one form of His Glory to the next.
Just like running faster and further.
Rick Renner said that most musicians and artists need some kind of inspiration.
They wait until it comes before they can write.
But our inspiration as believers, comes as soon as we put pen to paper.
Or in my case, as soon as I tie my shoes!
Graces enforces desire.
Where the mind truly allows Grace, better results will follow.
Grace won’t cause you to become lazy and willy nilly.
That’s flesh.
That’s the- why-run -when -you -can -walk mentality.
That’s staying at the manger side.
Playing with the baby.
But as the baby grows, so should you and I.
We do that by beholding His life.
In the Word.
That’s the inspiration.
We walk as He walked.
We run as He ran.
We have to stop making excuses that we’re just human.
Imagine if Jesus would have walked around saying that all the time.
He too, was human.
But He was also Spirit filled.
And He chose the Grace of God to lead Him.
He, was inspired by the Father!
Here comes that song again.
I’m gonna pull up the lyrics:
“You’re the meaning in my life
You’re the inspiration
You bring feeling to my life
You’re the inspiration
Wanna have you near me
I wanna have you hear me sayin’
No one needs you more than I need you”
Is that your jam to Jesus?
I believe it will determine whether you run or just walk.
