“Simon Peter, and Thomas who is called Didymus (the twin), and Nathanael from Cana of Galilee, as well as [John and James] the sons of Zebedee, and two others of His disciples were together. Simon Peter said to them, “I am going fishing.” They said, “And we are coming with you.” So they went out and got into the boat; and that night they caught nothing.”
John 21:2-3 AMP
I’ve been getting the picture lately, of my Father’s family owned business.
Customers are coming.
Walking up to the front door, locked, only to find a big
“GONE FISHING” sign posted,
where store hours with OPEN, should be.
I’m settled to know I wasn’t the only one.
Peter, had Gone Fishing too.
Literally.
And, he had taken a batch of the other boys, who were also supposed to be working Father’s business,
With Him.
(Our influence has more of an impact on others then we may think.)
They fished all night, and came up completely short.
Jesus asked how that was working for them.
Where are you at today my Brother, or Sister where you seem to constantly come up short?
Maybe you’re Gone Fishing!
Nothing is wrong with fishing, in and of itself, but these boys were supposed to be waiting on the Holy Spirit in Jerusalem like Jesus had told them-
Not fishing because they got bored!
But let’s look at Jesus..
He knew them, yet, He loved them.
Right there.
He was at the point of their need, with not only wisdom, but provision.
He already had the fish and bread ready before they ever casted their nets!
And a warm fire.
The same kind of fire Peter had warmed himself by when he was denying Jesus.
But Jesus didn’t come to rub that in his face, rather He was right there to restore the fire in Peter’s heart, when He re-established his call on Peter.
“So when they had finished breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon, son of John, do you love Me more than these [others do—with total commitment and devotion]?” He said to Him, “Yes, Lord; You know that I love You [with a deep, personal affection, as for a close friend].” Jesus said to him, “Feed My lambs.” Again He said to him a second time, “Simon, son of John, do you love Me [with total commitment and devotion]?” He said to Him, “Yes, Lord; You know that I love You [with a deep, personal affection, as for a close friend].” Jesus said to him, “Shepherd My sheep.””
John 21:15-16 AMP
Peter hadn’t.
But Jesus had!
Now was Peter’s opportunity to receive from Jesus, not try and earn Grace.
And He did!
The next chapter is Acts… of the apostle’s… not just sayings!
When Peter was converted, he strengthens his brethren, and boldly preached the Gospel.
Just like Jesus said He would.
Wherever you are, if you’re out fishing,
Jesus is right there.
Calling to you, asking how “it’s” going without his direction.
Once you recognize it’s His Voice, by His goodness, you’ll cast on the right side!
Just Look at the haul!
What do we realize?
Without Jesus, (in our own ways of doing) we catch NOTHING.
With Him, we already have EVERYTHING.
Let’s get back to the Father’s business.
Change your sign.
